Axel Lindner writes music for instruments and voices, produces studio recordings and plays violin, viola, piano and synthesizer. His compositions are based on both narrative and algorithmic methods and show multiple references to the topoi of ambient music and minimalism. Since 2016 he has been teaching violin in the jazz department at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne.

As a musician, Axel Lindner has performed with Marc Ribot & The Young Philadelphians, David J Haskins, Sam Amidon, Jherek Bischoff, The Neal Morse Band and Niobe, among others.
