LA LIMINA is a new Cologne-based ensemble that, with its line-up of piano, two synthesisers and percussion, explores the boundaries between the acoustic and electronic soundscapes, creating its own unique style of post-minimal rock. Their debut programme, the NEMESIS SUITE composed by the band’s founder Axel Lindner, draws on the ‘cosmic music’ of Krautrock and will receive its world premiere in autumn 2026 in sacred spaces in Cologne and Bonn.
With its harmonious, consonant textures, the music of the NEMESIS SUITE is at times reminiscent of the ‘cosmic music’ of the Krautrock era. However, these passages are repeatedly interrupted by unexpected shifts in style; building on the repetitive structures of minimal music, the composition unfolds into a distinct, post-minimalist form. Expressionist outbursts, romantic or free-jazz-style piano cascades, and laconic 1980s-style synthesiser riffs stand alongside moments of meditative consonance and rhythmic uniformity. As a result, the music constantly oscillates between familiarity and disorientation, sonic richness and surprising breaks.
The name LA LIMINA refers to the Latin word ‘limina’ – thresholds or transitions – and thus describes the ensemble’s central artistic aim: to bring to life transitions between stylistic worlds, timbres and listening habits.
